Ciara appeared on Good Morning America to help announce some of the 2017 American Music Award nominees on Thursday (October 12), including Artist of the Year. The names weren't all too surprising — Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, The Chainsmokers, Ed Sheeran — but what was shocking is what these artists all had in common: they're men.

Not a single woman was nominated for the coveted Artist of the Year category, even though artists like Katy Perry, Kesha, SZA and Lorde released powerful, high-selling music this year. When the full list of nominees eventually hit the Internet (see the full list, below), what was even more alarming was the fact that women were snubbed in pretty much every other non-gendered category as well.

Tour of the Year? All men. Video of the Year? No women. Even most of the genre specific categories, including Favorite Album — Pop/Rock was all testosterone. Needless to say, the Internet got angry, with good reason.

Halsey was one female artist to get nominated, though it was for her work with male duo The Chainsmokers, and she had something to say to the AMAs:
