The ratings for ‘American Idol‘ are down this season, but the show may lure back some viewers with its plans to have several former contestants — including Adam Lambert and James Durbin – return to perform on the ‘Idol’ stage this season.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Season 8 finalist Lambert, Season 5 contestant Chris Daughtry, and Season 10 performers Durbin and Lauren Alaina will all take the stage in the coming weeks as the show begins to narrow down the crop of Season 11 hopefuls.

Daughtry is confirmed for the March 15 episode, where his band will perform ‘Outta My Head,’ the latest single from their third album, ‘Break the Spell.’ Specific dates for the other performers have not been nailed down, but Lambert will surely be promoting his upcoming album, ‘Trespassing,’ which has been delayed but should arrive sometime in “Mapril.”

Falling back on its past may be a smart move for ‘Idol’ to recapture some of the viewers who haven’t been tuning in this season. After all, that lengthy history of producing successful singers is one thing ‘The Voice‘ doesn’t have yet, so why not take advantage of it?
