Al Sharpton Calls Travis Scott Performing at Super Bowl Hypocrisy

Travis Scott has the opportunity to perform on one of the biggest stages in his career: the 2019 Super Bowl. But with hip-hop's almost universal support of Colin Kaepernick being what it is, Scott has been getting pressure to sit this one out. Al Sharpton is the latest person to weigh in on La Flame's scheduled set at the big game. He thinks the slated performance with Maroon 5 would be hypocrisy.

Scott's SB gig has been a hot topic since it was announced. Sharpton was stopped by TMZ on Friday (Dec. 21) in New York City and he had very pointed views on the topic.

"I think anyone that goes into the halftime show is in effect directly violating those that want to raise the question that the NFL should come to terms with what they have done and what they continue to do with Colin Kaepernick and those who protest on criminal justice issues," he said.

He added that he doesn't think the rapper can play both sides on this one. "You can't tell people to stand for those who take a knee and don't go to the game, then say but somebody should perform there and entertain," he said. "You're drawing TV viewers. You're bringing supporters and I think you can't have it both ways. You can't help people market something and then turn around and say you agree with what people are protesting."

Ultimately, Sharpton thinks Trav should tell the NFL thanks but no thanks. Jay-Z is also someone who has come out saying he thinks Travis should turn down the offer. On the other side of the spectrum, Yung Joc says he does not blame Travis for taking advantage of the opportunity.
