Alessia Cara: wild thing, verifiable rule breaker.

The singer, whose debut LP Know-It-All dropped in November 2015, will receive the Rule Breaker Award at the upcoming Billboard Women in Music event, Billboard announced today (December 2). The distinction honors women in music who are "boundary-pushing" and break convention, the company says. Demi Lovato received the inaugural honor in 2015.

Cara first entered the Billboard charts with 2015's "Here," which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February. "Wild Things," "Scars to your Beautiful" and "Wild," her duet with Troye Sivan, have also charted.

The latest rule breaker joins an all-star lineup at the show: Madonna has been named 2016’s Woman of the Year, Halsey has been deemed the show’s Rising Star, Meghan Trainor is set to receive the Chart Topper Award, Andra Day will be named Industry Powerhouse and Shania Twain will receive the icon award. Day, Halsey, and Trainor will perform.

The show will film on December 9 in New York City and air on Lifetime on December 12. Who are you most excited to see?
