We've got the Tomato Fest in Jacksonville, the Blueberry Festival in Nacogdoches, and this weekend it's all about watermelon in Center.

Texas knows how to throw a festival that centers on food!

If you don't mind the hour's drive, you'll be able to sample some watermelon, hear live music, ride carnival rides, and benefit a bunch of East Texas non-profits.

The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce says the opening ceremony is set for tonight at 5, and carnival rides will be open through Saturday night.  They'll also have a pet show, a 5K Saturday morning, and live music each night.  And of course they'll have a watermelon seed-spitting contest!  That's Saturday afternoon from 4 to 5pm.

There will be sausage-on-a-stick and nachos and other non-watermelon concoctions at the What-a-Melon Festival, but the juicy red boats will be the star of the show. Something tells me they'll be even better than the ones at the grocery store right now.

The adult buttons are only 4 dollars each, and those are good for all three days.  Wow!  And kids 5 and under are free.  Sounds like a pretty cool, down-home Texas weekend to us.
