Angelina County Chase Leads to Arrests, Suspect Compliments Police Driving Skills

A police chase that originated in Lufkin and ended in northern Angelina County resulted in the arrest of two Lufkin men, one of which seemed to be rather impressed with an officer's driving abilities. 

According to a Lufkin Police report, Ashton Rhoden, 25, and Oscar Rivera, 19, were arrested after being involved in a vehicle pursuit. The chase began on North Timberland near Walgreens at 10 a.m. when an officer noticed the men not wearing seat belts and attempted to stop their Honda Accord. The chase ended around 10:30 a.m. on Rivercrest Road after the men, including the driver who is still at large but has been identified, bailed out of the vehicle.

Rivera was caught a block away moments later, while Rhoden was arrested at his job later in the afternoon, following a tip. After being arrested, Rhoden told an officer that he ruined his $240 shoes in a Rivercrest Pond while trying to get away. Rhoden also complimented the officer on his driving skills in "keeping up" with them.

A warrant will be obtained for the third suspect.
