‘Animaniacs’ Reboot Officially Lands at Hulu With Two-Season Order
Whatever your take on TV’s endless revivals, the latest will really put some bologna in your slacks. Yes, the Animaniacs are officially returning, as Hulu places a two-season order for a new version of the classic series with Steven Spielberg returning as executive producer.
It was late May of last year that Warner Bros. and Amblin Television were reportedly circling an Animaniacs revival, which finally now lands at Hulu with a two-season order for 2020. Described as “the first Hulu Original made for families,” the new Animaniacs will feature Steven Spielberg back as executive producer of the series, along with Warner Bros. Animation President Sam Register, and Amblin Television Co-Presidents Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. The first synopsis also confirms that classic characters like Pinky and the Brain will be back:
The Warner brothers, Yakko and Wakko, and the Warner sister, Dot — three inseparable, irascible siblings — have a great time wreaking havoc and mayhem in the lives of everyone they meet. They have been locked away in the Warner Bros. water tower for a very long time, but they have found a way to escape. And escape they do — every day! Causing chaos and comic confusion, Yakko, Wakko and Dot run loose in the city, turning the world into their personal playground. And fan-favorite characters Pinky and the Brain will also return to make appearances in each episode.
But wait – there’s more! Hulu and Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution have also confirmed that all episodes of the original Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, followup Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain and Tiny Toon Adventures are available to stream. The original Animaniacs ran from 1993 to 1998 (first on Fox Kids, then Kids WB) for a total of ninety-nine episodes, subsequently spawning Pinky and the Brain and a Wakko’s Wish movie. It also garnered eight Daytime Emmy awards and a Peabody across its run.
2020 is a long wait, but how might an updated Animaniacs look? Watch one of those classic songs below.
