So guess who Taylor Swift invited to perform on stage with her at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Monday, Nov. 21? That’d be Johnny Rzeznik, the lead singer of alt rock hitsmiths Goo Goo Dolls. The band originated in Buffalo, which is way up north in the Empire State. But they are still technically from New York so they fall in line with Swift’s tradition of inviting guests from the state in which she is touring to come on stage with her. The pair performed the band’s pretty, mid-’90s smash ‘Iris,’ a moving ballad, which is right in Swift’s wheelhouse.
Even though it was just reported that Katy Perry plans to take a year off to focus on starting a family with funnyman hubby Russell Brand, Perry’s publicist revealed that she will be hosting the Dec. 10 episode of ‘Saturday Night Live.’ So Perry is not taking any sort of break before 2011 wraps.
Rebecca Black‘s ‘Friday’ was one of the biggest viral videos of 2011, and just when you though the song was dead, buried and gone from our collective consciousness, it’s getting a shot in the arm and dragged back to the forefront of pop culture in time for the holidays.
As reported by The FW, the song has been reworked for a Kohl’s Black Friday ad, with a zealous shopper (who has a little crazy in her eyes) singing about having to get to Kohl’s on Black Friday, Black Friday, Black Friday.
Taylor Swift won her 10th American Music Award in the form of the 2011 AMA for Artist of the Year, beating out some stiff competition from the likes of Adele, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne and Katy Perry. Weezy was surrounded by a lot of beautiful and talented women in this category, wasn’t he? Nevertheless, Swift expressed a mixture of shock, awe and joy when her name was announced. They like you, Taylor. They really like you. What’s not to like about T. Swift?
Katy Perry is at the top of her game right now and is one of the most beloved females in the pop music fiefdom. While conventional wisdom might dictate that Perry should continue to strike while the iron is blazing hot, the singer is actually planning to take a step away from her music career in order to concentrate on something a little more important: family.
Lady Gaga is once again being recognized for her support and kindness towards the LGBTQ community. The “Q” is for “questioning,” in case you weren’t familiar with what it stands for, since it’s newly added to the LGBT tag. Gaga will be honored with the Trevor Hero Award, courtesy of The Trevor Project, on Dec. 4.
Finally! Lady Gaga has released the prelude to the long-germinating (make that “Germanotta-ating”) video for ‘Marry the Night.’ She’s been teasing this bad boy forever, and released a still photo of herself being wheeled on a hospital gurney last week.
A new Google product is officially upon us and it’s Google Music. The Beta version was available for a good chunk of time and it allowed users to upload up to 20,000 songs, free of charge, to the cloud, so it could be streamed no matter the user’s location. Well, now the service has been upgraded with the launch and there is so much content and convenience that will be yours for the taking.
Ut-oh. Selena Gomez‘s unstable stalker, who told his therapist that he spoke to God and member of the LAPD about killing the teen queen and even traveled to Los Angeles in effort to meet her, has seen his charges dismissed by a judge.
Lady Gaga‘s book ‘Lady Gaga x Terry Richardson’ is a coffee table tome, full of candid photos of the Mother Monster taken over the course of 10 months by the famed photographer, Terry Richardson. Gaga wrote the book’s foreword and engaged in a video reading of said excerpt.
Even though Mariah Yeater’s lawyers ditched her and she withdrew her paternity lawsuit against Justin Bieber, the 20-year-old is not going gentle into that good night. Just when we thought The Biebs was in the clear, Yeater has hired new lawyers and appears to be vigorously pursuing her case outside of the courts. Ugh! Sorry to hear it, Biebs.
Justin Bieber maintained all along that he is “not the father” and turns out he was telling the truth! He won’t have to go on ‘The Maury Povich Show’ to prove anything! Mariah Yeater, the 20-year-old woman who claimed The Biebs was her baby daddy after a 30-second tryst in the bathroom after one of his L.A. shows, has quietly withdrawn her paternity suit and her request for child support.
