Two Avengers Kiss in ‘Infinity War’ Set Photos (No, Not Steve and Bucky)

Something that’s always peeved fans a little bit is Marvel’s somewhat labored finagling of romance into their movies. While shipping characters like Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes (a.k.a. Stucky), Thor and Loki (okay, it’s not like they’re really related), or even Tony Stark and Rhodey is all the rage amongst the fandoms, Marvel’s movies have generally kept things Extremely Hetero. Lately, we’ve gotten some weird stuff like Black Widow and Bruce Banner developing a relationship seemingly out of nowhere in Age of Ultron, and Scarlet Witch and Vision getting a little Stockholm Syndrome-y during Civil War. It looks like the latter is still on, as some new set photos from Infinity War have revealed.

E! Online debuted two new photos of Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and a very human-looking Vision (Paul Bettany) that look like they’ve been taken by a private detective working for Wanda’s estranged husband. The first shows the two having a little laugh, which may or may not be part of a scene or just the two of them relaxing between takes, and the second you can see for yourself below:

Vision can pretty much do anything, so it’s not surprising that he’d choose to take on a more human look to please his human-ish lover. (God I hope someone like Ant Man or Spider-Man says something like, “Hey, you look kinda like Paul Bettany!”) But, honestly, I prefer the cape. Even though they do get together at one point in the comics — and even get married — their relationship felt a little odd during Civil War, but maybe this new movie will be more successful in making us believe in it.

Luckily, if you’re one of those people who’s ready for these movies to get a little gayer, Black Panther will feature a few moments between two canonically lesbian members of T’Challa’s warrior guard. Footage that screened for critics showed that the movie would delve a bit into Ta-Nehisi Coates’ World of Wakanda spinoff that focuses on the warrior women, and the relationship between these two (Okoye and Ayo) in particular. At least Marvel seems to finally be a-changin’ along with the times.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters May 4, 2018.
