At long last, the fourth season of Black Mirror has cleared away the fog. Months after a first trailer and weeks after its promotional tour began, Netflix confirms a late December premiere for the six new stories that comprise the dystopian techno-thriller.

Despite releasing undated trailers for all six new installments, you can forget about the surprise release theory. Review embargoes have lifted, and a new comprehensive trailer for the fourth season confirms that all episodes will drop on Friday, December 29; months after the initial August trailer and late compared with last year’s October premiere. Why Season 4 will hold its release until after Christmas is anybody’s guess, but the question remains if the twelve Netflix episodes initially ordered might represent the last we see for a while. Deadline made note of rumors creator Charlie Brooker wanted to end the series, but Brooker himself only offered cryptic suggestions of his post-Season 4 future:

The world certainly throws up no shortage of ideas, you’re always trying to stay one step ahead of the technological advances in the world.

In the meantime, watch individual trailers for all six episodes at the link above, and stay tuned for our full review of Season 4.
