Singer Bruno Mars has lost his mother, Bernadette Hernandez, who died of a brain aneurysm following complications from a reported heart attack on June 1. She was only 55 years old.

According to a publicist for Mars' record label (who was not allowed to speak on record but passed the news onto the Associated Press anyway), Herdandez passed away in Honolulu, Hawaii at the Queens Medical Center.

Hernandez, a supporter of Mars and his music, was herself a hula dancer and singer who put a young Mars (born Peter Gene Hernandez) in the family's shows as an Elvis impersonator.

In return for her love and support, Mars was equally devoted to his mother, a love he often shared with his fans on Twitter (see below).

Bruno is set to continue touring to support his album 'Unorthodox Jukebox' on June 22, but there is currently no word on his plans during this difficult time.
