A young cat that was left to die inside a mesh backpack and thrown into a Lufkin pond is up for adoption Thursday. The cat has recovered from what animal control officials say was likely a cruel joke. Authorities have searched the backpack for any information, but so far have no leads.

The cat was taken to the local animal shelter to recover. There, they named him Sosimo, Spanish for 'survivor'. Animal control said they believe the cat is about six to eight months old and it does have a little blue collar on it, so they do believe it belongs to someone.

They've held him for a week, so he's now up for adoption on a first come, first serve basis. Maxwell is hopeful Sosimo will have a home for Christmas. Just give Lufkin Animal Control a call if you want to be that person. (Source KTRE News 9)
