Lufkin…Hunger is at the root of many of our social problems. Many people who struggle to buy food to feed themselves or their family may turn to crime or drugs in desperation. Throughout the year, a number of non-profits in Angelina County provide food for the hurting and hungry. At Thanksgiving, hundreds of your neighbors join hands to help. It’s called the Community Food Drive. When it began in 1999, volunteers delivered Thanksgiving baskets filled with food to 50 families. Last year, volunteers packed and delivered more than 1,600 baskets to the needy. This year, on Saturday, November 17th, more than 2,000 families will be served.

Want to help? Here's How!

1. Provide financial support!
The goal is to raise $25,000 in funds to purchase about 20 food staples that will comprise this year's food basket. Your tax-deductible gift will help us to ensure the families that have been identified will be served. Just mail a check to:
Community Food Drive
1508 S. First Street
Lufkin, TX 75901

2. Volunteer!
Help the Food Drive with your time on Saturday, November 17 at 8:30 a.m. and help them assemble and deliver baskets. Meet at the Brookshire Brothers Warehouse, 1402 N. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin. Just come inside the main gate to the right of the building. No need to sign up. Just show up!

3. Nominate a family in need!
If you know of a needy family, leave a voicemail message at 936-631-3176. Include the family name, address, directions to the home, a name and a home telephone number.

It's a great cause, and it's really what Thanksgiving is all about!
