Jury’s out on whether Matt Ryan’s Constantine will ever return to live-action, but our favorite demon-hunting detective has nonetheless found new life. See for yourself in a first look at the CW Seed animated series, now set for a 2018 premiere.

The CW debuted its official key art for the animated Constantine, featuring the title character ready to take on some nasty-looking demons behind him. Matt Ryan will again lend his voice, having originated the character on NBC, reprised the role on Arrow, and even voicing a different version of the character in the animated Justice League Dark.

Here’s the synopsis:

Armed with an arcane knowledge of the dark arts and a wicked wit, he fights the good fight. With his soul already damned to hell, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. With the balance of good and evil on the line‎, Constantine uses his skills to face the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.

Young Justice alum Doug Murphy will direct the 2018 series, as written by Justice League Dark helmer J.M. DeMatteis and produced by Greg Berlanti, Butch Lukic and David S. Goyer. For the moment, there are no plans to return the character to live-action (nor any immediate indication the animated series is intended to keep Arrow-verse continuity), but we’ll learn more with a Sunday presentation at New York Comic-Con.

Stay tuned for the latest on Matt Ryan’s Constantine return in the meantime.
