Booze didn’t turn out to be a magic elixir for Daniel Radcliffe.

In an interview with GQ, the ‘Harry Potter’ star admitted he developed a dangerous drinking problem as a way to deal with his fame.

"I became so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff," he told the magazine, adding it was just plain luck that paparazzi never caught him visibly intoxicated.

According to Radcliffe, he’s been sober since August of 2010. He attributes his turnaround to realizing that he could live a "quite life away from the glitz and glamor of showbiz.”

The 21-year old is currently starring in the Broadway musical, 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.'

'Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2' is set for release on July 15.
