Nobody knew what a Hatchimal was four months ago, but now we're hearing that they are the hottest Christmas gift of 2016, and they can't be found anywhere!

If you don't know what a Hatchimal is, take a look at this video and see for yourself.

Now check out how we made our very own Hatchimal that cost no money whatsoever.

Look, obviously we didn't spend any time on our Faux Hatchimal, or "Hacktchimal," but that doesn't mean our hearts aren't in the right place.

We made ours out of cups and paper bowls in under 5 minutes, so we have faith that your Hatchimal project won't be worse than ours. You're welcome by the way. We set the bar so low, you can't fail.

Or Check your local craft store for Styrofoam balls or eggs. Make sure they are already hollow, because you'll make a mess carving out the little pellets of Styrofoam yourself.

Next, get yourself a cheap doll ... If you're good at those claw machines, you might be able to get a doll for only 25 cents!

Now place a walkie talkie or cell phone in there, and have someone in another house make chirping or cooing sounds.

Have your kid get distracted by some cookies or something, and then quickly replace the phone with the doll, telling them it was so eager to meet their new owner, it went ahead and hatched.

If you have an old Furby lying around, that would probably be best.

NOTE: You may want to go ahead and email all the other parents to instruct their kids not to question the doll your kid will be bringing to school when the Christmas break is over.

If none of this works, turn it into a fun project you and your kids to do together.

It's not a perfect plan, but it might buy you some time until the real Hatchimals are available again.
