Given the present turmoil within Cash Money, Lil Wayne suing the label and Tyga fleeing for greener pastures, the present state of Young Money, Weezy's imprint and hand selected roster, remains in question. The biggest YM acts, Drake and Nicki Minaj, are both fully formed superstars thriving beyond any one genre, and so what's to be made of the collective that gave us "Every Girl" and "Bed Rock" seven years ago?

According to Drake himself, Young Money is still very much alive, the rapper taking to Instagram on Tuesday (Sept. 27) to pay homage to his friend and mentor Lil Wayne, who turned 34 yesterday. "Everything I got is because of god and you. Happy birthday to my brother. Thanks for believing in all of us when you didn't have to. YM we still alive Free C5," he wrote. Young Money last released Rise of an Empire in March of 2014 with singles "Senile" and "Trophies," though the latter was very much a Drake song.

This marks the second straight day Young Money has made headlines, as yesterday, David Banner won a lawsuit against the label for unpaid royalties for three songs he produced, Lil Wayne's “La La” and “Pussy Monster,” both of which appeared on his Tha Carter III album as well as “Streets Is Watching,” which was featured on the 2009 compilation We Are Young Money. A default judgement awarded Banner more than $160,000 after Young Money failed to respond to the case
