Beloved Eagles guitarist Glenn Frey has passed away at the age of 67. TMZ reports that the cause of death was due to "complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia," health issues that Frey had revealed in November 2015 after the Eagles abruptly pulled out of the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony due to Frey requiring surgery.

A blog post on Frey's web-site confirmed the news, along with this message from his family:

Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia.

The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery.

Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.

Formed in 1971, the classic rock band are an iconic part of the American music pantheon, and are responsible for hits such as "Hotel California" and "Tequila Sunrise."

Admittedly, it's been a rough few weeks for pop culture. Frey joins an alarming list of beloved figures who we have lost since the new year, including David Bowie, Celine Dion's husband Rene Angelil and brother Daniel Dion, Alan Rickman, Brian Bedford, Lemmy of Motorhead, and WWE superstar "Iron" Mike Sharpe, who also passed away today at the age of 64.
