Michael Fassbender Definitely Looks Like an Assassin in New ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Photos

As far as assassins go, Michael Fassbender is certainly dressed for success in the latest batch of photos from Assassin’s Creed. Fassbender re-teams with Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard for the long-developing adaptation of Ubisoft’s hit video game series — which could very well end up being the first genuinely good video game movie ever released.

Based on everything we’ve seen (those practical stunts are killer) and heard, we’re feeling fairly optimistic about Assassin’s Creed. Adding to that excitement: The involvement of cinematographer Adam Arkapaw, who worked with Kurzel on Macbeth and again with Fassbender on The Light Between Oceans. That first Assassin’s Creed trailer didn’t give us much of a feel for Arkapaw’s work here, but the new images above (via The Playlist) show off a few particularly great shots — and one of Fassbender doing his best “come at me, bro” pose.

Assassin’s Creed also stars Michael K. Williams, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson, and is officially described as follows:

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

The film’s December 21 release date inspires more skepticism than the project itself, as Assassin’s Creed hits theaters just five days after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the same day as Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence’s sci-fi romance Passengers. That doesn’t give Kurzel and Fassbender’s film much breathing room, but it should offer some nice counter-programming for this holiday season’s other major releases.
