I will say that the promotion for the movie has been over the top, started with dumping Bisquick on Ryan Seacrest, and ended on a near fall from a camel Cannes film festival over the past weekend.  For the small amount of promotion that I have seen on the TV.  Sacha Baron Cohen has almost taken it viral.

It’s the first time for a boy vs girl in the finals in a long time….and if Jessica wins, it will be the first time a girl won it in a very long time. So what did you think. Did the voters get it right? Are the best 2 singers in the finale.

The first time I ran away from home I wasn’t over 5 years old. I remember if very vividly. I packed my blue suitcase, and put on my Incredible Hulk T-Shirt and walked away. That first time I only made it till the end of the driveway

Looking back on that, though I thought it was the only solution, but it was a very bad choice. No matter how bad you think you have it at home, eating sunflower seeds and peanut butter every day for a month is not cool. Shortly after that I found an apartment, and had a charmed life ever after. I even moved back in for a time, and things were much better.

So you might think it’s a good idea now, but let me tell you it’s not. If there is some kind of crazy circumstance that make is to you have to leave, then by all means figure it out.

My wife remembers her first kiss. She won’t tell me about it though. But I am pretty sure tongue was involved and it was awkward. That’s why she won’t tell. I luckily don’t remember my first kiss, because as a youngster kisses were forced upon me by many girls. Something about growing up in Lufkin, all the girls here think that they can just kiss you all the time. It’s a Southern thing.

I do remember the first time a girl that kissed me that I didn’t want to be kissed by. It was like a slug slipped into my mouth. So gross. And you know who you are.

Disco legend Donna Summer has died after a battle with cancer, TMZ is reporting. She was 63 years old.

Insiders say she wanted to keep the disease quiet, and a friend said that as recently as two weeks ago, Summer seemed okay and was even finishing up work on a new album.

The five-time Grammy winner shot to fame in the 1970s with songs like ‘Love to Love You Baby,’ ‘Hot Stuff’ and ‘Bad Girls,’ and continued her reign on radio airwaves into the ’80s with hits including ‘She Works Hard for the Money’ and ‘This Time I Know It’s for Real.’

Summer was also the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach No. 1 on the US Billboard chart.

I was born in the 80s, but didn’t grow up listening to her music until I was a little bit older. My sisters are I used to make up dances to her songs all the time. She will always be a legend and music icon. Rest in Peace, Donna Summer!

Looks like there must be a fault line somewhere near Timpson, TX. The second earthquake in a week shook the area, centered in Timpson but felt as far north as Shreveport and as far south as Lufkin according to the National Geological Society.  The 4.3 magnitude earthquake started  this morning at 3:12 a.m.

Unlike the last quake in the area this one caused more damage and was almost a full point higher on the scale.

So far, there are some reports of minor damage in the Timpson area, such as fallen dishes, broken windows, and the most significant damage so far being reported at the Ollie Barrett residence, where numerous bricks from their chimney came crashing down into their living room, along with their television. This is the second time in a week an earthquake has hit near Timpson. Last Thursday a 3.7 quake rattled the area.

When you’re buying sunscreen, do you look for words like ‘waterproof,’ ‘sweatproof’ and ‘sunblock?’ If so, don’t bother — they may not be as bulletproof as they seem.

Last year, the FDA mandated that sunscreen manufacturers had to stop using the above descriptions because no product is truly waterproof or sweatproof, and even the best sunscreens don’t completely block harmful rays. And although the ban was supposed to be in place this summer, makers now have until this winter to comply.

Products claiming to be ‘waterproof’ or ‘sweatproof’ will have to prove it with standard testing and state exactly how long a product will stay on the skin after being exposed to water or perspiration.

In addition, terms like ‘sunblock’ will be replaced with ‘broad spectrum’ as long as a product has an SPF rating of at least 15 and protects the user from both UVA rays (associated with skin cancer) and UVB rays (which can cause sunburn).

That said, sunscreens on the shelves are still effective and the FDA encourages their use, saying, “The ingredients in FDA-approved sunscreens marketed today have been used for many years, and FDA has no reason to believe these products are not safe.”

Graduating seniors at Lufkin High School received $114,000 in scholarships from the Alumni Association Monday night at a ceremony at Tom Jack Lucas Auditorium. Big bucks! The LHS Alumni Association said that’s the highest dollar amount ever for them.

Contributions by other donors topped $3.1 million, and added up to hundreds of scholarships for 180 students. All that studying DID pay off. I know I thought all the hard work might never end, and then suddenly it did and then I wondered where all the time had gone. Scholarships are a nice way to ease the transition to college. They’re a pat on the back, and provide a financial boost in the fall.

Valedictorian Ruth Watkins got the first ever John Mitchell Memorial Scholarship, named for the beloved teacher.

Morgan Elizabeth “Lizzie” Wallace and Amy Zhang were the winners of the Virginia and Bayo Hopper Memorial Scholarship. Wallace has spent much of this year in a battle with cancer, and the crowd supported her with an ovation and whooping applause Monday.

Conner Groom won the first ever Coach John Outlaw Memorial Scholarship.

Congrats to all, and toss that cap high at graduation! It won’t be long and you’ll be COLLEGE grads and you’ll be working 9 to 5 and married with 2.5 children and a dog. Enjoy the new beginning!

In other Lady Gaga news, she has also become the first foreign artist ever denied a concert permit by Indonesia.  The countries Islamist organizations have protested and complained enough to get it cancelled.  I really can’t understand that, because in my mind the people there have spoken, the concert was sold out.  That sends a pretty clear message in my mind that Indonesia wants her there.

Karmin appeared on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno’ on Monday (May 14) to perform the first single from their just-released debut LP, ‘Hello.’

“This is unreal…we’re so excited to perform on @JayLeno tonight!!!” the two-piece wrote on Twitter before the show. “Somebody needs to pinch us. Who’s watching?”

Dressed in a belted teal dress and black booties, Amy Heidemann offered an energetic rendition of the duo’s rap-infused pop tune. Nick Noonan supported his bandmate on keys, and sported a pompadour to match Heidemann’s.

The flawless performance follows the release of Karmin’s ‘Brokenhearted’ music video in which Heidemann explores the feelings around flirting with someone special and then not hearing from him the next day. “We really wanted to showcase the live performance energy of Karmin with a dose of some on-screen chemistry, since it’s inspired by how we met,” Noonan said of the official video.

The pair’s flawless ‘Leno’ performance was a perfect celebration of their new record, which also features their latest song, ‘I Told You So.’ The late-night appearance isn’t the only stop on Karmin’s press run — the couple showed up on the set of ‘Live With Kelly’ and ‘Good Morning America’ last week.

I’m always looking for local honey, since I’ve heard it’s good at helping with local allergies. Getting too scientific about it might make my head explode, but I’ve heard ingesting what the bees produce is supposed to help fight off seasonal allergies. I’m giving the kids a teaspoon a day and they don’t have many sniffles.

With the Farmer’s Market is open in Nac, you can not only get local honey, but just about anything else homegrown too.

The Farmer’s Market says it has baked goods, local organic beef, homemade candles, ceramics, Texas artisan cheeses, local organic chicken, free range eggs, local organic tilapia fish, flowers, various handcrafted items, herbs, local honey, jewelry, plants, preserves, local produce, homemade soaps and locally made fruit wines.

The Nacogcoches Farmer’s Market is open every Wednesday from 3-6pm, and Saturday’s from 8am-Noon. On Saturday’s they break out the breakfast burritos and tacos. Yum!  It’s located at the “hitch lot” at the corner of West Main and Pearl Streets. See ya there.

Did you know that you can’t bend a quarter with your bare hands.  It’s impossible.  Also, that it costs the U.S. Mint 10cents to make a quarter.  It costs less to make a dollar bill.  You can make a bill for 6 cents.  So it looks like event the government is upside down on this investment to start with.

Well the one thing that kept coming up during the day was candy.  It’s just about the only thing you can buy for a quarter.  I love blow-pops, and 25 cents is about the going rate.  Then I thought you could go to the hardware store and get some single nails.   I need some nails.  So I am going to head to the store and spend my quarter…but it might cost more than a quarter in gas to spend it.

I got to sample a variety of fine micro brews in the sort of wild atmosphere you’d expect from Ellen Trout Zoo!  You walk around from booth to booth getting samples of tasty appetizers, all kinds of beer, and live entertainment. You get a lot for your money.  I don’t usually pay to go places, but for what you get it’s a bargain and I ponied up the dough.  Tickets were $25 for Zoo members and $35 for non-members. Designated driver tickets for just $15.

It’s always a pleasure hanging out at the Zoo and Ellen Trout Park during the Zoo Boo, Zoo Brew, or the 4th of July, it’s really my favorite place in town.  I would like to thank Michael Page for dragging me out there and Zoo Director Gordon Henley for being such an amazing host.  It’s a brilliant idea,  an event for adults to enjoy some grown-up fun is refreshing here in East Texas.
