On Wednesday, Fifth Harmony's Lauren Jauregui announced she would take a hiatus from Twitter—though she technically has tweeted in the days since her announcement. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the singer opened up about her decision to "[take] a break from this s---," as well as the online bullying she and her group members constantly face online.

"I feel like a lot of people disregard the scrutiny that people like us are under," Jauregui explained. "We're not all thin, model types, and we're not all perfectly colored. It mind-boggles me that somebody would take time out of their life to make someone feel inferior because of something like that. That to me, is insane."

The former X Factor star, who suffered an emotional onstage breakdown in September, shared that she and her bandmates struggle with not allowing the criticism to affect them personally.

"You can't help it as a human being when you're put under so much scrutiny, by multiple people, not even just one person in real life, telling you something. It harms you," she said. "We try to sit with each other and lift each other up, and these people who are telling you things, these people are all behind their computers who are envious of what you have, and the abilities that you have."

Jauregeui's social media break comes immediately after the "That's My Girl" singer faced backlash online after tweeting her potential support of presidential candidate Jill Stein. Upset, followers accused Jauregui of trying to convince fans to take votes away from Hillary Clinton in what ET calls a "close election."

Jauregui then revealed she's planning on voting for Clinton on November 8, writing, "Lol f--- this... I am definitely with Her for the sake of not having Him in the White House, however, my point was to shed light on things purposefully muted."

When users continued to criticize her, the performer became upset, writing, "Some of you are so mean damn.. like yeah, I didn't know about Jill… and I shared it with people and then like all of this crazy s--- happened."

Jauregui then announced she would take a hiatus from Twitter, concluding, "I'm taking a break from this s---. Y'all can have your fun and make whatever assumptions about my character you want...I wait for the day this sh*t doesn't affect me as much as it does, goodnight."
