You've got two opportunities learn about self-defense this month, either for free or for very little.

The Family Crisis Center of East Texas has arranged for a free self-defense class for women as part of Domestic Violence Awareness month.

Sergeant Amanda Kennedy of the Stephen F. Austin State University Police Department will volunteer to instruct a self-defense class for women.

The class will be held at the Student Center Cafeteria on the Angelina College campus, and will begin  at 2:00 PM.

The Family Crisis Center will have personnel there to answer any questions as well as provide helpful information and resources to the attendees.

Another, yet separate self defense seminar teaching prevention, safety, and street smarts will be held on October 27th, 2016 as well. This seminar will also function as a toy drive benefiting the Family Crisis Center thrift shops.

Bring a children's toy worth around $10 to donate, and that will work as your entry fee into the self defense seminar.

The seminar will be held at the Lufkin Parks & Recreation building on October 27th, and will begin at 6 PM.

The seminar on October 27th is being taught by Gabriella Roberts.
