Globe Life Park May Want to ‘Visit the Mound’ on Food Safety Protocol
Ever wonder how safe the food is at that Rangers game? Sports Illustrated just gave you your answer.
It’s the great American pastime… baseball. And despite a lull in professional sports this time of year, Major League Baseball is hanging in there in the “hunt for October.” I wouldn’t put it past too many Ark-La-Tex residents to travel to Arlington, Texas to catch a Rangers game. Baseball games can sometimes be long and many times we grab a bite to eat at the park.
Sports Illustrated says Globe Life Park is in the bottom ten when it comes to food safety.
You can take that with a grain of salt though. Using data from 28 local health departments, they put together a list ranking all major league ballparks across this great nation. This data looked at all food vendors and stands in each location. Plainly put, all parks had violations. Before you panic, these health experts say you shouldn’t worry about the parks with few violations at a handful of stands. It’s the parks with multiple violations at numerous vendors that you should examine.
Keeping food healthy at a ballpark seems near impossible to me. For the most part it’s an outdoor venue that sits vacant for months at a time. Kind of like the grill at your apartment’s pool, right? The biggest is just keeping food at the proper temperatures. Or, in the case of Globe Life, an employee using his cellphone and then touching your food without washing his hands.
Ewww… phones are loaded with germs!
Now, I know this doesn’t fall solely on the park, since some vendors are independently owned, but this and a few other violations earned Globe Life a 20 out of 28 ranking. It’s true that the park at Arlington is not the worst of the bunch, like Tropicana Filed in Tampa Bay, Florida, but it’s still quite a ways from the top. SafeCo Field in Seattle, Washington took home the gold on this list. And if you travel to Houston for an Astros game, things look pretty good for you. Minute Maid Park ranked in at number three.
