The City of Lufkin putting on a huge send off starting with a parade downtown at 5:30pm today, Friday August 11st.

Want to see the Thundering 13 in person today? The goal is to line both sides of First Street from Jennings Station on East Burke all the way to the Lufkin Convention Center.

The boys and coaches will be loaded up on fire trucks and paraded to the cheers of all their adoring fans. Tomorrow they leave to go to Williamsport, Pennsylvania and we just have to give them a proper send off. Once at the convention center, join us at the Plaza Amphitheater as we recognize all the players individually and the coaches.  Mayor Bob Brown will be reading a proclamation, and other distinguished guests will speak.

I watched every game of the Lufkin Little League played on ESPN 2 over the past week, and on the Longhorn network. These kids have inspired me to actually watch sports again. I am even in a Fantasy Football League. If you would have told me a year ago that a sporting event besides the Super Bowl, I would have told you you were crazy.

These kids are all amazing, and I can't wait to watch them win it all. Tune in to ESPN 2 for the team's first game in Williamsport on August 17 at 7 p.m. against the Great Lakes Region winner. That team will be known after their championship game on Saturday.
