Earlier reports that claim Joni Mitchell is in a coma and is entirely unresponsive are, according to a statement from MItchell's team, untrue.

Mitchell's team posted the following message on her website after reports about the singer's condition began to circulate the web. It said, "Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital—but she comprehends, she's alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority—in the absence of 24-hour doctor care—to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts. You may add your well wishes for her at the website WeLoveYouJoni.com."

According to TMZ, the legendary folk singer -- who has been in the hospital for quite some time now -- allegedly fell into a coma earlier today. As such, a close friend of hers named Leslie Morris has reportedly filed legal documents to get a conservatorship over Mitchell as the singer does not have any close relatives suitable to do so. TMZ went on to claim that the documents filed by Morris claim Mitchell is "so impaired as to be incapable of being assessed."

Mitchell was first rushed to the hospital on March 31 after she was found unconscious in her Los Angeles home. At the time, reports claimed that Mitchell was responsive and alert when she was first transported to the hospital. There are still no details as to what caused the singer-songwriter to fall unconscious.

Today's news conflicts with earlier reports that stated Mitchell's condition was improving. A few days after the initial hospital visit, her website was updated with the following message: "Joni remains under observation in the hospital and is resting comfortably. Her progress is encouraging as she continues to improve each day.” She was also moved to the intensive care unit in a Los Angeles area hospital, but was reportedly awake. A representative also posted the following message on Twitter, "Joni is currently in intensive care in an LA area hospital but is awake and in good spirits. More updates to come as we hear them."

We will continue to update Mitchell's status as new information emerges.
