Local Lufkin Pro Football Player to be Honored at Banquet

This is the third year for the LPD Group banquet. The first two banquets were sellouts and with this chance to meet Pro Football Players it's no wonder.  The group honor graduates from Angelina County schools who have gone on to distinguish themselves on the professional playing field, while maintaining a standard of excellence on the playing field of life.

The Lufkin Pro Day Group will honor two outstanding athletes from Angelina County and a much-loved Lufkin coach Friday, June 22.

Honored this year will be Rex Hadnot, Buddy Lowery, and the late Coach John Outlaw.  Hadnot, a Lufkin High School graduate is an eight-year NFL player who recently signed with the San Diego Chargers. In addition, for the past three years Hadnot has conducted a free football camp for the children of Angelina County. Lowery, a graduate of Huntington High School played basketball at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches before going on to play several season with the Detroit Pistons. Coach John Outlaw, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year, was the epitome of Lufkin athletics.

These men will be honored at a banquet Friday, June 22 in the youth worship center of Lufkin’s First United Methodist Church.
