Ever thought of a career in law enforcement? If so, now is a great time to step forward and consider a job as a Lufkin Police officer. 

According to a release from the LPD, the department is taking applications between now and Aug. 26 for the Civil Service Exam set for September 15th.

In the weeks leading up to the test, those interested can assess their written test preparedness with tutoring hosted by Dr. Guessipina Bonner and their physical abilities with our “Run with your Recruiter” sessions. Dr. Bonner’s study sessions are TBA and typically held at Lufkin City Hall. Run with your Recruiter dates are as follows (meet at 9 a.m. at the Department 300 E. Shepherd Ave.):
• Aug. 13
• Aug. 24
• Sept. 3

Individuals who make at least a 70 on the written test will be invited back the next day to complete a physical assessment. The physical requirements for becoming a Lufkin Police officer are:

• 1.5 mile run - Less than or equal to 18 minutes and 8 seconds
• 300 meter run - Less than or equal to 75 seconds
• Bench Press - The lesser of 135 lbs. or 67 percent of the candidate’s body weight
• Vertical Jump - Greater than or equal to 15.5 inches

Passing applicants will be ranked based on their scores, resulting in a list that will remain in effect for 12 months or until the list is exhausted.

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, be able to pass an extensive background check and polygraph exam and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. There is no upper age limit.

Starting pay is $42,534.13 annually with lateral entry available for experienced officers up to $54,008.66.
