Luke Skywalker’s Rumored Bling in ‘The Last Jedi’ Could Be Very Important

When we last saw Luke Skywalker, he had just flipped the gray hood of his grayer robes off of his head with a flourish to reveal his extremely gray wise man beard and to fix Rey with his piercing gray eyes. Word on the street is he’ll definitely have more lines in The Last Jedi, and probably at least one more outfit. A new rumor also suggests he has some new jewelry that might have something to do with his past and Darth Vader. [Be advised: this gets into some kindaaa spoilery territory, so if you want to go into The Last Jedi blind, run away!]

Making Star Wars has the big rumor scoop on this, which may be a story element or may be just a small detail that only the most die-hard fans will catch. According to the site, Luke wears a pendant on a chain, and attached to the bottom of that pendant is a red crystal. If you know anything about Star Wars, you know that lightsabers are powered by kyber crystals, which were mentioned a few times in Rogue One. We even see Jyn Erso’s mother hand her daughter a kyber crystal, although that goes… absolutely nowhere, so who knows. Maybe this is a plot point that Lucasfilm meant to address, but then decided to cut it when trimming the fat.

If Lucasfilm is hyping up the kyber crystals, trying to remind fans that they’re an important part of the lore, maybe Luke’s necklace will figure into the plot of The Last Jedi. We know Kylo Ren’s hobby is collecting war memorabilia, specifically Darth Vader’s stuff, so it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that, if Luke’s crystal is more than just a costume detail, Ren will be searching for it. Which would lead him to the planet Luke’s been hiding out on all his time. Which would lead him to Rey.

This is still all speculation, and, given Lucasfilm’s penchant for secrecy, we probably won‘t know for sure until we see the actual movie, but this would be pretty cool if true. The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15.
