Main Street Lufkin will be waving our nations flag high Sunday, June 14 as we celebrate National Flag Day. The 35th Annual Flag Day Celebration will begin at 5pm in the atrium of Lufkin City Hall.

Mayor Bob Brown will be there, along with the Reverend Richard Griffin. Music will be provided by Mary Jones. The Lufkin Fire Department Honor Guard will be posting the colors. Alfred Navarro, Commander, Post 1836 will lead us in the pledge. Members of the VFW will distribute miniature flags, and the American Legion Auxiliary 113 will serve refreshments.

From the colorful story about Betsy Ross, to the unforgettable picture of a handful of Marines hoisting the stars and stripes at Iwo Jima, the American flag has held a special significance beyond its status as a national banner. National Flag Day calls us together for a moment of unity in a celebration of history and heritage, as we honor not just our flag, but the freedom and the nation it represents. Everyone in the community is encouraged to come out and join us as we celebrate Flag Day. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony. The program is sponsored by Main Street and the City of Lufkin.
