Meryl Streep, national treasure, went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night to promote Steven Spielberg’s The Post in the midst of awards season, and, naturally, because she is Meryl Streep, the topic of nominations came up. Streep is sitting pretty on 20 nominations, so Kimmel decided to try and test her knowledge with a quiz.

“If you’re able to name them, I will give you this bonus Oscar,” he said, before pulling out an Oscar statuette from under his desk. Streep, giggling through it, manages to get five of the 20 before her time is up — The French Lieutenant’s Woman, Kramer vs. Kramer, Silkwood, Sophie’s Choice, and Out of Africa.

Except, she actually got six. It’s worth noting that she was right about A Cry in the Dark, otherwise known as the “dingo ate my baby” movie about an Australian woman whose child is carried off by an animal. Maybe Kimmel’s staffers shouldn’t used IMDb to fact-check their material. It is listed on Wikipedia, though.

With The Post this season’s Oscar bait-iest of baits, we’re likely to see it make a showing at the Academy Awards next month. Seth Meyers even had a joke in his Golden Globes monologue in which he listed all the big names involved in it – Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks — and then shooed an aide off the stage who had prematurely brought out all of their awards.
