New Luke Skywalker Photo Suggests ‘The Last Jedi’ May Venture to the Dark Side
I didn’t time it with a stopwatch, but if I had to guess, I’d estimate that Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker was onscreen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens for about 15 seconds. He’s standing on that cliff, Daisy Ridley’s Rey shows up, he looks at her, she tries to give him the lightsaber, they stare at each other uncomfortable aaaaaaaand cue John Williams’ music.
Again, I haven’t timed it, but there might be more of Luke in the trailers for The Last Jedi than in all of The Force Awakens too. Still, in most of the footage we’ve seen so far, Luke looks basically the same as he did in that one brief Force Awakens appearance, in his handsome white-and-tan cloak. Here, though, via the cover of a Hungarian magazine called Mozimánia, is something different. It’s Luke all in black with a rakish cape draped at an angle. See for yourself:

Well, now i know the Hungarian translation of The Last Jedi.
This isn’t the first time Luke’s taken to dressing all in black; his signature costume from Return of the Jedi was a dark ensemble, teasing the fact that the impressionable Skywalker may be seduced to joining the Emperor and his pops. I imagine this costume is meant to suggest the same; in the wake of all the death and trouble Luke has seen, he might be contemplating switching sides.
Or maybe he just recognizes that he looks really cool in black. It’s either one or the other. Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters on December 15.
