Nick Jonas is the focus of Complex magazine's latest cover feature, which hit the internet today (February 1). Like several of the magazine's cover subjects in the past year — Demi Lovato and Justin Bieber among them — Jonas has just begun to cultivate a career as a grown-up solo artist, and the profile sees him doing big-boy stuff like getting drunk and discussing his exploits with the ladies. "The real Jonas is a guy who drinks straight tequila and unabashedly loves Twain," writer Kerensa Cadena proclaims (that's Shania Twain, not Mark).

When asked about his rumored fling with Kate Hudson — point blank, "Are you having sex with Kate Hudson?" — Jonas initially brushes it off, and then offers an opaque response that respects the actress's private life, yet can be taken as confirmation for those who want to believe. "Kate’s incredible. We had an unbelievable connection as two humans who just admire things about each other, and see something in each other that’s beautiful," Jonas says. "Out of my best effort to respect her and her privacy, I’m not going to say if we had sex or not. But we did have a beautiful connection. Even now I have so much admiration and respect. She’s amazing." So there you have it: Nick and Kate "beautifully connected" and respected the sh---t out of each other.

"It’s a bizarre matchup to a lot of people," Jonas admits. Then he divulges a few of his other celebrity crushes, including Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke, Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence. “I know they are besties," Nick admits, like the avid crush-aholic he is (he hasn't hid his crush on Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall either).

Jonas maintains he's been very single since his breakup with Olivia Culpo in 2015, but has DMed a hot girl or two on Instagram (oh, romance in 2016). "Slide right in there sometimes,” he admits. “And then you’ll text the person and finally meet the person. It’s like online dating. Even that freaks me the f---ck out. I’m like, should it be a group? Just the person? It’s scary.”

Nick touches on the JoBros breakup — "it would have ended badly if we hadn’t ended it when we did" — and says he feels much more "free" these days. He also addresses the gay fan base he's cultivated in recent years, both directly and through his roles in shows like Kingdom and Scream Queens, and shrugs off both gay rumors and accusations that he's pandering to gay men.

"As a heterosexual male, [I am] open and comfortable about loving my fan base, gay or straight, because to me there is no difference, it is my fan base," he tells Complex. "Your sexual preference does not matter to me and it shouldn’t matter to anybody. I thought [the criticism] was kind of dumb, considering I play this gay character on a gritty show."
