Now that you’ve seen Wonder Woman, get ready to meet her maker. No, not Zeus — her real maker. Following a record-breaking opening weekend for the Amazon superhero’s solo movie debut, Annapurna has released the first teaser for Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, an upcoming biopic that explores the real-life and somewhat lesser-known origins of the iconic DC Comics character.

Diana is currently (and rightfully) enjoying a pretty major pop-culture Moment thanks to the release of Wonder Woman, which arrived in theaters over the weekend and is already a huge success. While Patty Jenkins’ film explores the character’s fictional background, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women will introduce audiences to the true story behind one of the most beloved superheroes of all time.

Directed by Angela Robinson, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women stars Luke Evans as Dr. William Moulton Marston, the brilliant 1940s Harvard psychologist who invented the lie detector test. But it was his other, fictional invention that caused a bit of a stir. Inspired by his wife Elizabeth (Rebecca Hall) and the couple’s lover, Olive Byrne (Bella Heathcote), Marston created Wonder Woman, a superhero who defied convention and fought for truth — and elicited accusations of “sexual perversity.” As Marston publicly defended the character from charges of indecency, he fought to maintain the secrecy of a personal life that would be equally (if not more so) challenged in the public eye.

Also starring Connie Britton and Oliver Platt, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women is expected to arrive in theaters sometime this year.
