Nicki Minaj's seven years on top as the BET Awards's best female hip hop artist came to an abrupt end last night as Remy Ma swooped in to take the title. Proving that sometimes you can call it a comeback, Ma had not won the award since 2005.

The artist appeared on stage in a silver fringe and sheer gown, thanking her husband, Papoose (also a rapper) along with Fat Joe. Ma, who spent time in prison for assault, cited two correctional facilities in her speech. Her track "Shether" was released in the spring and was well received by fans.

Said Ma of her best female hip hop artist win, "You can make mistakes and come back."
