Congratulations are in order for Sam Smith as he now has both working vocal cords and a Balenciaga campaign to brag about.

Sam shot a series of photos for the collaboration as well as a video, a teaser trailer which the fashion house released today (July 16). The brief 15-second-clip shows Sam looking melancholy. Black-and-white and brooding, Sam is at his most mysterious here, with his face shrouded in darkness until he makes a sudden and inexplicable, dramatic movement toward the end of the clip. So classic.

The "Stay With Me" singer spoke to Women's Wear Daily about the collaboration, saying (via Complex), "I love how intimate it feels, and how involved Alexander [Wang] has been and is with the brand. I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d be wearing these clothes, let alone modeling them. So this is a dream come true, and I hope the beginning of a lovely long relationship with Alexander and the house."

Wang also commented on working with Sam, noting that the respect is mutual. He said, "I’ve always been a huge fan and thought it would be exciting to portray him in a surprising way that could be as timeless and emotional as his work."

Are you as excited about the upcoming Balenciaga campaign as Sam is? Do you think the tone of the shoot fits Sam's signature Sad Aesthetic perfectly? Does it inspire you to listen to In the Lonely Hour on repeat? Let us know.
