Dave Chappelle had perhaps one of the hardest SNL gigs in recent memory, to follow the still-stunning upset of Election Night with humor. His monologue in particular set a tone for soldiering onward, for which Chappelle now offers new insight into the SNL writers’ room that week, and the advice Louis C.K. gave him.
SNL has been piecemealing through 2017 with two shows a month, and our first April show is now confirmed to follow Scarlett Johansson. Comedian Louis C.K. will return to SNL for the first April 2017 show, joined by a first-time musical guest.
As if Sarah Silverman, Dave Chappelle and Jerry Seinfeld weren’t enough, Netflix has picked up yet another comedy icon for new specials. Louis C.K. has joined the streaming service with a commitment for two new standup performances, the first of which will arrive as early as April.
Around this time last year, we first heard that Louie creator Louis C.K. and the legendary Albert Brooks had partnered on a new animated comedy for FX, and one year later, it’s finally official (with a tweak). TBS has officially ordered the new series, which places both comedians as The Cops.
Louis C.K.’s self-financed series got the wrong kind of attention with offhand remarks that he’d gone into debt, though the Louie creator was quick to correct that the investment would eventually pay off, particularly with sale to an official outlet. That day seems to have come, as C.K. suggests Hulu will eventually stream the 10-episode series.
It’s not the type of show to bring any flashy presentation to Comic-Con, but we’re still excited for a look at Louie star Pamela Adlon’s FX Better Things, if not on the strength of its first teasers, than by C.K.’s involvement. The first full trailer makes a strong case as well, debuting well before the September premiere.
There’s nothing new or marvel about cute cuddly talking animals; they’ve been the center of animated feature films since the earliest days of animation. But in ‘The Secret Life of Pets,’ the age old shtick still works.
Pamela Adlon’s acerbic nonchalance hasn’t been seen on FX since the days of Louie, and with Season 6 somewhere in the far-flung future, Adlon is making her own fun with Better Things. The first teaser for the star’s own FX dramedy has arrived, shamelessly co-opting a Game of Thrones favorite.
Louis C.K.’s Horace and Pete is far enough in the rear-view that Louie fans remain optimistic for a sixth season somewhere down the line, but the comedian doesn’t seem to be changing his tune on the beloved FX dramedy. Not only does the series remain on hiatus, C.K. himself says “I don’t think I have stories for that guy anymore.”
FX’s Louie may be on extended hiatus, but Louis C.K. himself is taking no breaks. The revered comedian surprisingly released the first episode of a new Cheers-type comedy over the weekend, Horace and Pete, starring the likes of Steve Buscemi, Alan Alda, Jessica Lange and more.
