Have you heard of the "Harlem Shake" dance craze that's taken over YouTube lately?

My first glimpse at this new dance trend was when I watched a clip on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. At first, I was confused. When the video ended, I was still confused, but amused at the same time. So I searched for more of these videos on YouTube, and was astounded by the number of submissions I found.

From what I've concluded, a successful Harlem Shake video is comprised of:

  • At the video beginning, only one person (usually wearing a mask) is dancing to the song 'Harlem Shake' by Baaer. Every other person in the room or nearby minds their own business and doesn't pay attention to the risqué dancer.
  • When the bass drops, everyone else joins in on the dancing, usually accompanied by costumes and/or props, and the dancing involves some slightly inappropriate moves.

Let's face it, just like any other dance craze (Gangnam Style, anyone?), this one of going to fade in a couple of weeks. But for now, let's sit down and enjoy some of our favorite ones from the World Wide Web.
