This Thanksgiving My Laughingstock-of-a-Dish Shall Be Redeemed
Anyone else planning on using this Thanksgiving to redeem themselves?
No Thanksgiving is perfect. Even in the ones that you think are perfection, there was probably a minor mishap that could have been disastrous. Other mishaps may be been on display for all to see. Maybe last year’s green bean casserole left everyone hugging the porcelain throne, or you left your famous sweet potatoes on top of the car when you pulled out of the driveway on the way to Grandma’s house. We’ve all been there.
For me, my redemption lies in fudge.
When I was in college, I decided that I was going to make fudge for Thanksgiving. I love fudge and thought it would be a decadent, sweet finish to a massive, savory meal. Unfortunately, I made WAY too much of it and we had fudge in the freezer through the new year. That fudge made a defrosted return to every family function for months. Now, it’s the family joke for every get together. “Oh, is Jess making fudge this year?” “I really wish I had a batch of fudge for this event… and the next seven to come.
It ends in 2017.
This year, I’m making redemption fudge. It will be the smoothest, most melt-in-your-mouth fudge anyone has ever tasted. And you know what? We’ll run out on Thanksgiving. My batch will be so small that not everyone will get a piece if they don’t hurry. It’s about time I changed the narrative. Instead of laughing at me, they’ll be begging me to bring my famous sweet treat to Christmas, Easter, baby showers, bridal showers… everything!
