So, correct me if I'm wrong...but I think that this past week marked the end of the 2016-2017 school year for teachers. I know that lots of schools ended the week before, and some two weeks before, but I think that last week was the final week for our local schools. And now, something needs to be said.

Thank you. I want to extend a thank you to the teachers out there. If you don't know what they put up with on a daily basis for 10 months out of the year, you're missing out.

I grew up in a "teacher family". My mom, my aunts, uncles, cousins...yeah, lots of teachers (and I became a radio DJ - can you guess which one is out of place in this scenario?). I even married the daughter of a teacher. So, yes, I've gotten to see all the aspects of the educator life.

Let me tell you, it's not all glamour. They put in long hours for little thanks. The teachers that actually put in the time to invest in their students' lives have a pretty tough road ahead of them. They tend to spend lots of extra time at the school, and when they aren't at the school, their students are still at the top of the "Teacher's Mental Checklist" - even over the summer.

No, there's no punchline coming. These are just the facts. Don't believe me? Ask a teacher. I think you'll find that my observations and statements are correct. Now that you have that information, what's next? It's simple, whether you have a student in school or not, you go thank a teacher for what they do. Believe it or not, at some point a teacher has crossed your path and had some effect on your life.

Again, thank you to all of the teachers out there. You've made it through another school year. Enjoy your summer break. You've earned it.
