According to a release from the Nacogdoches Sheriff's Office, a known south side 13 gang member was taken into custody yesterday afternoon after assaulting two deputies.

Deputies were dispatched to County Road 6104 in reference to the suspect, Antonio Morales, who was making threats to a family member. The caller advised that Morales was in a mad tirade, and was possibly high on drugs.  Morales threatened to kill a family member, and then went to the neighbor’s house and threatened to kill them.

Deputies arrived on scene and found Morales in the front yard of a residence. As deputies approached, Morales appeared to be compliant at first, but then quickly became aggressive toward deputies. Morales starting swinging his fist and feet and would not comply with the two deputies on the call.  While deputies were attempting to arrest the suspect, Morales started hollering out loud, calling for gang members to come kill the deputies. After an intense fight and struggle with the suspect, deputies managed to overpower him and get him into custody. Even after Morales was handcuffed, he continued to fight with deputies by kicking at them.

Other officers arrived on scene, including the Nacogdoches Police Department to assist. The suspect was taken to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Two sheriff deputies were also treated at the hospital for minor injuries sustained during the altercation and were later released.

The suspect was also later released from the hospital and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.  Antonio Morales, 26,  was charged with two counts of assault on a public servant a 3rd felony, Terroristic Threat (family Violence) Class A misdemeanor, and resisting arrest, class A misdemeanor.
