Centuries after its introduction to the U.S. vernacular, the N-word remains—justifiably—an extremely guarded term, with only Black people and select other minorities being able to use it without drawing the ire of folks from all over the country. It’s safe to say White sorority girls aren’t on that list, and that’s why plenty of folks are having a fit after members of the University of New Hampshire’s Alpha Phi Sorority used the word while shouting the lyrics to a Kanye West song in a recent video.

In the clip, obtained by TMZ, members of the sorority sing the chorus to Kanye’s Late Registration hit, “Gold Digger.” While it’s not uncommon for White people to rap aloud the lyrics to popular rap songs, it’s often expected—if not presumed—that they refrain from using the word when it pops up on the track. The women in this video did not.

“I ain’t saying she a gold digger, but she ain’t messing with no broke niggas,” the predominantly White group of sorority girls shout in the video. Needless to say, plenty of people would call this occurrence a problematic one. More than a few White people have been called out for using the N-word throughout 2017, and though none of these sorority members are celebrities, they might face some trouble if they’re identified by their school faculty.

UNH is now investigating their school’s Alpha Phi Sorority after the controversial video was uploaded to Facebook. Watch the vid below.
