How Much Time and Money Does it Take To Live Comfortably?
Resistancereport recently did a study showing the hours needed to work on a minimum wage income individual needing to afford a one bedroom apartment in their respective states.
According to the map below, someone in Texas would have to work 78 hours a week to be able to afford a one bedroom apartment. Honestly, that sounds about right. I don't know too many people that don't have 2 jobs, or some sort of side job.
Maybe that's why most people pair up, just to make life a little easier. Of course that all goes downhill once they have kids. Then it's back to the drawing board.
What do you think? Is this an accurate representation of how much someone would need to work just to be able to afford simple housing? What do you think should be done? Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you would do to fix this situation.
Of course you can visit the site where these maps came from for more information and details as to how they got these numbers, but it is a bit startling, especially if you haven't kept up with any of the economic issues of the past few years.
