Dangerous Weather Outbreak Developing Over East Texas

Severe weather and massive rainfall amounts are threatening the Pineywoods over the next several days.  Up to a foot of rain could fall in parts of our area. 

Over the past several weeks, Deep East Texas has been relatively dry, but a very saturated atmosphere will bring that to a halt.  From Tuesday through the weekend, rainfall totals of 5-7 inches are going to be rather commonplace, while isolated totals could be closer to a foot.  That much rain in such a short period of time makes flash flooding a major concern.  In fact, a Flash Flood Watch will be in effect for Angelina, Nacogdoches, and all surrounding counties from 4 p.m. Tuesday through 4 p.m. Thursday.

Severe weather also looks to be an issue.  Damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes are also a possibility, especially through Wednesday night.  Tornadic storms have already plagued areas of north Texas and the Hill Country.  In fact, as of 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, a tornado watch for Houston County is in effect until 1 p.m.  More severe weather watches and warnings can be anticipated through Thursday.  However, the biggest and most dangerous threat will come from flash flooding.  If you live in a flood prone area or near a creek or waterway, please keep alert to rapidly changing conditions.
