City of Lufkin Details Upcoming Downtown Road Closures
The City of Lufkin is advising motorists of two temporary road closures over the next 48 hours in Downtown Lufkin.
Frank Avenue Closure on Wednesday Night
The first closure will start late Wednesday afternoon. The southernmost lane of the eastbound side of Frank Avenue will be temporarily shut down to accommodate the contractors in the continued demolition of the former jail facility adjacent to the roadway. To ensure public safety and efficient operations, City of Lufkin crews will close the designated lane at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, with plans to reopen it at approximately 10:00 PM that same evening.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down and observe warning signs in the area, or just use alternate routes and avoid the area altogether.

Lufkin Avenue Closure on Thursday Night
The City of Lufkin Street Department will temporarily close Lufkin Avenue between 1st Street and Cotton Square on Thursday, September 25, to accommodate utility work. Oncor Electric crews will be working in front of the Perry Building, and access in the area will be restricted during the operation.
This work will take place during the day on Thursday, so pedestrian access in the work zone may be limited. The utility work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on Thursday.
The weather forecast for Wednesday calls for a high probability of showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours. This may affect the scheduled demolition at the jail. The City of Lufkin will provide updates if needed.
