We are about a month into Texas high school baseball season. Some schools have already started district play, while others are just a few days away from those conference games.

Diamond Pro is among a few sources that rank the various classifications of high school baseball teams in the Lone Star State. They have just released the latest rankings for the week of March 20, and several Deep East Texas teams are included.

Class 4A

The Hudson Hornets are a playoff-caliber team year in and year out, and this year appears to be no exception. The Hornets are ranked 12th in the state with a record of 12-5-3, and they haven't lost since March 3.

There are several other teams in close proximity to the Pineywoods that are in the top 25 including Carthage (#11) and Bullard (#21). Carthage used to be a district foe of the Hornets, but since the most recent UIL realignment, Bullard is now in Hudson's district.

Class 3A

Three Deep East Texas teams are in the current top 25, and wouldn't you know, they're all in the same district.

The Central Heights Blue Devils (#4), Woodville Eagles (#21), and Diboll Lumberjacks (#22) have started conference play and the Blue Devils have the early upper hand with victories over both Woodville and Diboll. All three of the teams are capable of making deep runs in the playoffs.

Class 2A

The Garrison Bulldogs are hoping to make it back to the UIL State Tournament for the 3rd straight year. Garrison is ranked 20th in the state. Meanwhile, perennial power Douglass is ranked fifth in Texas while the Joaquin Rams check in at number 8.

Class A

Kennard is hoping to make another run to the UIL State Tourney in 2023. The Tigers are ranked 4th in the state.
