The bi-annual ritual of changing our clocks to accommodate for Daylight Saving Time is coming up soon.

Driving into the radio station in the morning and home at night I can tell our days are getting shorter by where the sun is in the sky. With shorter amounts of daylight cooler, and even colder, weather is on the way for East Texas too.

Daylight Saving Time will come to an end and we'll be returning to standard time. Decades ago it was a chore to change all the clocks in our homes. One of the trickiest ones was the VCR! Thankfully those days are gone, but we still have to change the clock on the microwave, coffee maker, and alarm clock, in our vehicles and we'll be changing them on the first Sunday in November.

Daylight Saving Time will end Sunday, November 3rd at 2 a.m.

While it's a chore to change the clocks, it's also a blessing in disguise because we're going to gain an extra hour of sleep. Thanks to technology we won't have to change the clocks on our computers, tablets, phones, and some watches.

What does the end of Daylight Saving Time mean?

When Texas returns to standard time, sunrise and sunsets will happen about an hour earlier meaning more daylight in the morning and less in the evening.

Things you should check when you're adjusting those clocks.

  • smoke detector - check and replace batteries with fresh ones
  • carbon monoxide monitor - check and replace batteries with fresh ones
  • home alarm system - contact your monitoring service and let them know you'd like to test your system

When the time change weekend arrives enjoy that extra hour of sleep as the clocks 'fall back' on that Sunday morning at 2.
