Texas Counties With The Worst Commute Times Ever
The daily commute to work is a grind for millions of Texans. The commute seems more like a chore because it's something you have to do but you don't want to. The stress alone from the daily commute is enough to cause health problems for some, not to mention there's the cost of wasted fuel while idling in traffic along with the wear and tear on your vehicle.
We know that the Houston Beltway, 635 in Dallas, and I-35 in and around the Austin and San Antonio areas are already congested and that commute times to work in those downtown areas can be more than 45 minutes to an hour or even longer.
Even commutes in smaller Texas towns can be long in comparison and traffic can be just as challenging because there aren't enough lanes for traffic.
I'm talking about Loop 281 in Longview as well as Loop 323 and along Old Jacksonville Hwy. or S. Broadway Ave. in Tyler. These 'smaller' cities also experience issues with traffic and long commute times, although not as long as the major metro areas of Texas.
Average commute time for Texas drivers
Commuters spend on an average of 26.7 minutes each way getting to and from the office according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2021 American Community Survey.
Road expansion is needed to handle anticipated traffic and future growth.
There are countless road projects underway in Texas costing billions of dollars. These TXDOT projects will take time to complete, often many years, so there are growing pains until the projects are completed.
Let's take a look at the Texas counties that have the worst commute times in the Lone Star State.
