East Texas Based Grocery Chain Continues To Expand Into Central Texas
While East Texans have been BEGGING for a certain Texas based "3 letter" grocery store chain to bring a location to our area, the dominant player here has quietly taken a different approach and has been expanding their foot print in other areas of the Lone Star State.
Tyler based Brookshire's Grocery Company already has over 200 locations in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana under several different banners and they continue to expand into other areas with recent acquistions.
Brookshire's Grocery Company Is Acquiring Shopping Baskit Stores.
Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) and Shoppin’ Baskit announced today that they have entered into an agreement under which BGC will acquire the Shoppin’ Baskit locations in Ranger, Coleman, Ballinger and De Leon, Texas.
These locations will become Spring Market stores following a short closing for conversion at each location. This expansion includes a new partnership with BGC and ACE Hardware to continue offering ACE products in the Ballinger location according to Coleman Today.
The Acquisition Comes A Year After Brookshire's Acquired Diamond Foods Grocery.
Back in September of 2023, BGC picked up Diamond Food Market stores in Henrietta, Mineral Wells and Aubrey, Texas. The location in Mineral Wells was converted to a Brookshire’s and stores in Henrietta and Audrey were converted to the Spring Market banner.
It appears that BGC is taking a different approach to expansion by taking over locations in smaller towns over chasing after the bigger suburbs which has been HEB's main focus of expansion over the last few years.
