A lot of people are so excited to have a three day holiday weekend to drink, BBQ, and chill, they don't stop to ask what Memorial Day is all about. Why is it a national holiday? Memorial Day is a day of remembrance. The day formerly known as Decoration Day is a day set aside to give thanks to those have sacrificed all for our country and the freedoms we enjoy today. The holiday was born out of the Civil War and a desire to honor our dead. It's also a day to thank former and current service members for their service. We honor those who have passed in service to our country and thank you for your selflessness. You will not be forgotten.
