Atlanta News Anchors Sneak in Tupac Shakur Tributes on TV

When parents try to act younger than their age and rap along to new songs, it can be painful to stand. But in a different setting other than your car on the way to the supermarket, like the traffic section of the news, it could actually be really dope. For one local Atlanta news station, one of the anchors dropped multiple lines from Tupac Shakur songs into his report yesterday to pay tribute to the legend.

Totaling about a minute’s worth of TV time, the traffic reporter Mark Arum cleverly inserted lines from Tupac songs like “California Love,” “All Eyez on Me,” “How Do U Want It,” “Me and My Girlfriend” and “Changes” into his updates. For those paying attention, he found ways to work Tupac into an otherwise monotonous traffic update: “All I need in this traffic life of sin” and “It was a horrible ride on 85 but that’s the way it is. Some things will never change.” It would be interesting to find out what his favorite Tupac song really is. Co-anchor Fred Blankenship also played along by quoting Tupac twice on camera. With the release of the Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me on his birthday Friday (June 16), Mark’s timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

This isn’t the first time the Atlanta station WSB-TV has paid tribute to rap legends, though. They also honored Phife Dawg in the slickest way possible last year.

The film All Eyez on Me has already earned $3.1 million at the box office after its Thursday night premiere, though 50 Cent and Jada Pinkett Smith are two outspoken critics of the film.
